A little bit at the campsite

On our way to Acadia we crossed an impressive bridge.  I thought this picture came out pretty good.
Sarah was a great camp hand, gathering wood, helping set up the tent, sorting and stacking kindling.

Our campsite was right near the beach.  I'll add more pictures of that later.

While Sarah worked around camp, I went exploring for dry kindling, tinder, and pine knots.  Much of the wood was wet from several days of rain, but I managed to find some dryish stuff of all the types I was looking for.

This is foliose lichen, not the fructicose that I used to make tinder, but it is good for kindling, especially when it's wrapped around some dead pine twigs.

While I was walking I passed a lot of empty campsites.

We had the entire park to ourselves.

This is nothing fancy, but it's my first no match fire.  I didn't use a bow drill yet, just a knife and a magnesium striker with a tinder ball of old man's beard wrapped in birch bark.  It's amazing how hot and fast the birch bark catches.

What the heck is Sarah making?

We managed to find some good Maine beers.

Oh! That's what Sarah was making.  We had some good hot dogs (yup, I ate a hot dog).

This is the bean soup we had and the spoon I made with my camp hatchet and my knife.  I was pretty proud.

Still life with spoon.

Thanks! We had a lovely time. It's been so long since the two of us went on vacation just together. And without dogs this time!
